Case Detail

The Fault Appeared Only After Long Operation

A diesel engine operating in Saudi Arabia developed an intermittent cylinder fault after extended high-temperature running.

When the vehicle returned to the workshop and cooled down, electrical testing of the injector appeared normal.

This created uncertainty about whether the injector itself or the surrounding wiring was responsible.

Temperature Was Added to the Test Plan

The workshop reproduced the complaint by operating the engine until the fuel system and engine compartment were fully warm.

Electrical behavior was then monitored while the affected cylinder began to misfire.

The injector circuit behaved differently under the hot condition.

Internal Electrical Condition Became the Focus

An injector electrical coil can sometimes behave normally when cold but change as internal temperature increases.

Resistance and insulation behavior may alter under heat, producing an intermittent control fault.

This differs from an external wiring problem because the electrical change occurs inside the injector itself.

Separating Injector From Harness

The technicians checked the external connector and harness first.

No repeatable harness fault was found.

The electrical change remained linked to the injector when the system reached the failure temperature.

This provided stronger evidence before replacement was approved.

Saudi Operating Conditions

High ambient temperature and sustained engine load made the thermal fault easier to reproduce than during a short cold workshop test.

For this reason, testing only after the engine had cooled would have missed the condition.

Case Conclusion

This case demonstrates why some injector electrical faults need to be tested at operating temperature.

A cold resistance check may not represent how the injector behaves after extended high-temperature use.

Reproducing the thermal condition created a clearer replacement decision.
